The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down periods of work into 25-minute intervals called 'pomodori' (from the Italian word for 'tomato') separated by breaks. Closely related to concepts such as timeboxing and iterative and incremental development used in software design, the method has been adopted in pair programming contexts. The method is based on the idea that frequent breaks can improve mental agility.

There are five basic steps to implementing the technique:

decide on the task to be done

set the pomodoro (cellphone timer) to 25 minutes

work on the task until the timer rings; record with an x

take a short break (5 minutes)

every four "pomodori" take a longer break (15–20 minutes)

I always use to ask ,why is PhD not a course in an university.with the I semester and II for course work .III for analysis and review paper writing and the fourth coming semesters for thesis paper writing .the problem with the slow process of most Indian doctoral degrees is lack of deadlines .

3	on Tue Jun 07, 2011: Research the general subject -- browse the internet, search a few online databases
4	on Tue Jun 07, 2011: Select a topic that is appropriate to the length and type of assignment
5	on Wed Jun 08, 2011: Identify research materials, and write a Reading List.
6	on Wed Jun 08, 2011: Compose a working thesis, start reading.
7	on Mon Jun 20, 2011: Research Phase Completed - by this date you will have read through the research materials you've listed, collected your research notes, and recorded bibliographic information needed to cite your sources
8	on Mon Jun 20, 2011: Print out and review your notes
9	on Tue Jun 21, 2011: Outline - define the overall structure of your discussion, and begin writing
10	on Sat Jun 25, 2011: FIRST DRAFT COMPLETED, with a revised thesis statement and a tentative title
11	on Sat Jun 25, 2011: Any follow-up research you need to do to fill in gaps in the written paper should now be completed
12	on Thu Jun 30, 2011: Edit, make final revisions, and run spelling checker
13	on Thu Jun 30, 2011: Write the bibliographic references for the works you have cited in the paper.
14	on Fri Jul 01, 2011: Hand in the finished paper!
